Getting a filling isn’t usually a fun endeavor, in fact, most people hate it, but if you have to get a filling then you might as well know what you’re working with. There are a lot of materials to choose from when getting a filling. It is important to keep in mind all of your options when choosing what is best for your oral health.

Composite fillings: Composite fillings are great because they can be matched to the normal color of your teeth. They are great for cavities that are small or medium in size and for teeth that do a lot of chewing.

Fillings that release fluoride: A newer option for dental fillings includes glass ionomers, which can be designed to release small amounts of fluoride. This is great because it helps prevent decay. The only problem with these fillings, well they aren’t great for teeth that do a lot of chewing. They break easily which means they are more commonly used between teeth or near your gum line.

There are other types of fillings that you should make sure to discuss with your dentist before coming to a conclusion. They will help you determine which fillings are right for you, and which ones fit into your treatment plan and budget.
