Straighten crooked teeth (without braces or aligners!): Veneers in Paxton, MA for a pleasing, healthy smile

Veneers for Crooked Tooth in Paxton MA Area

What makes a smile attractive? Generally, it comes down to “uniformity” and “balance.” We know an attractive smile when we see one, because the teeth are straight and in alignment, with even spacing between them. Teeth are also free of chips and stains. No single tooth sticks out too much in terms of its shape or size. Veneers are a desirable way to correct these and many other imperfections that detract from beautiful symmetry, including crooked teeth and gaps. Led by Dr. Scott Siemen, Paxton Dental Care in MA looks forward to restoring the lovely, balanced smile that you once had, or correcting the irregularities that have bothered you for as long as you can remember.

The trouble with crooked teeth

There are many causes of crooked teeth. Sometimes, there is not sufficient space in your jaws for teeth to erupt properly. This leads to crowding and misalignment. Likewise, habits early in childhood, such as persistent or forceful thumb-sucking, can affect healthy development and positioning of the teeth. Perhaps, as you’ve gotten older, teeth have shifted out of their correct positions. Maybe teeth that were formerly treated with braces have suffered from relapse, and shifted out of alignment again. Injuries and excessive force placed on the teeth from behaviors such as teeth-grinding, jaw-clenching, and TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) Disorders, can also give rise to excess spaces between teeth or overlaps. Misalignment and gaps not only detract from the appearance of your smile. But these conditions have implications for your oral health. Crowded or overlapping teeth are simply harder to clean properly. If food debris and bacteria are not removed, they contribute to the development of gum disease and tooth decay (the leading causes of tooth loss).

Preserve your teeth, restore your attractive smile (without braces!)

Veneers are shells of durable and natural-looking porcelain (or laminates) that are applied to the front surfaces of the teeth. When prepared expertly by Dr. Siemen, these “facings” can be used to cover everything from chips and stubborn stains, to slight fractures and gaps between teeth. Veneers can also be securely fixed to the teeth in a way where irregularly-shaped teeth or worn-down or “short” teeth can be reshaped or resized. Depending on how these shells are prepared, fabricated, and placed, they can even be used to correct crooked teeth and restore the appearance of straight, evenly-spaced teeth.

Patients appreciate that they get instant results. They also appreciate that little natural tooth enamel is removed to accommodate the thickness of the veneers that are placed on top of the tooth. Modern veneers, after all, are very thin. So, the process to improve the health and beauty of your smile is a conservative one that preserves maximum healthy tooth structure. Additionally, porcelain is a coveted dental material. It is known to be quite strong, and to mimic the qualities of natural tooth enamel well (down to how well it reflects light). Perhaps more than anything else, our patients love that porcelain resists stains! We will, however, need to discuss ways to keep your treated tooth looking great and functioning “as designed.” For instance, if you have bruxism (grind your teeth), we will discuss ways to protect veneers from damage caused by this behavior. Protective nightguards may be customized to prevent chips and fractures that threaten the integrity of your veneers.

What can veneers do for you?

As with all dental treatments, veneers are not for each and every patient that visits our Paxton, MA practice. If, for example, your crooked or crowded teeth are caused by oral health conditions such as gum disease, we will need to resolve that condition first. Additionally, teeth may require restorative treatment with fillings, inlays, onlays (partial crowns), or full-coverage crowns. Also, if you have more extensive needs for treatment of misalignment or bite correction, Invisalign® may be just what the dentist orders! Invisalign® allows you to reposition your teeth without conventional braces. Unlike braces that are fixed to your teeth and can only be removed by a dentist or orthodontist, Invisalign® aligners can be removed for effective cleaning of the teeth and for comfortable chewing of food. You don’t have to sacrifice anything during treatment.
