My daughter and I are new to this dental office and absolutely love the atmosphere, staff and the personal care we received. My daughter has always feared going for her appointments, but not anymore! Highly recommend Paxton Dental Care!

Brush your teeth with the proper technique at least twice per day

We all know that we should brush our teeth every day, but did you also know that there is a proper technique for doing so that will help you make the most of your time spent brushing? Using the following technique after every meal, or at least twice per day, will help you eliminate the most debris, plaque, and bacteria from the surfaces of your teeth:

  • Use a soft-bristled manual or electric toothbrush and a toothpaste that has the American Dental Association seal of approval, brushing for a full two minutes
  • If you are using an electric toothbrush, ensure that you spend an even amount of time covering all surfaces of your teeth
  • If you are using a manual toothbrush, position it at a 45-degree angle to your gums and gently brush back and forth using short strokes, covering all of the outer and chewing surfaces of the teeth; to clean the inner surfaces, position your toothbrush vertically and use up-and-down movements to brush the inner surfaces thoroughly

Clean between your teeth with floss or other interdental cleaners every day

Flossing every day is essential in maintaining healthy gums, as it helps eliminate food, bacteria, and plaque that might be stuck between your teeth and gums. You can use any interdental cleaner that you choose, such as traditional floss, single-use flossers, or a WaterPik water flosser.

Maintain a healthy diet

Maintaining a healthy diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables and low in sweets is not just great for your body – it’s also great for your smile! Crunchy items like apples and carrots help clean your teeth while providing important nutrients.
