Everything you didn’t know about Invisalign aligners for teeth realignment
If you’ve been considering straightening your teeth with Invisalign, you probably already know they’re clear, discreet, and effective. But what about the questions most patients forget to ask? Drs. Fadi Farah and Scott Siemen at Paxton Dental Care in Paxton, Massachusetts, are here to answer the questions you didn’t even know you had!
Can I eat and drink with my aligners in?
While it’s best to remove your aligners when sipping on your favorite beverages or enjoying your favorite meals to avoid staining and warping, there’s some good news, too! You do not have to give up coffee, red wine, or other guilty pleasures. That’s what is great about Invisalign versus traditional braces, which have many limitations. Instead, you just pop out your aligners when eating and drinking and then rinse your mouth before putting them back in.
What happens if my dog chews up my aligners?
Believe it or not, this happens more often than you think. Aligners are small, clear, and easily mistaken for a chew toy. If this happens, no need to panic. Contact Paxton Dental Care as soon as possible, and we will help you get a replacement. To avoid these issues, always keep your aligners in their case when they are not in your mouth.
Can I use regular toothpaste to clean my aligners?
Not all toothpastes are Invisalign-friendly. Some are too abrasive and can scratch the surface of your aligners, making them cloudy. Instead, use a gentle, clear soap with lukewarm water to keep your aligners looking great and staying discreet.
Do Invisalign aligners make me lisp?
Some of our patients notice a slight lisp in the first few days of wearing their aligners as they get used to them, though this is temporary. Your tongue will quickly learn to adapt, and any speech quirks will disappear before you know it.
Do I really have to wear my aligners 22 hours a day?
Yes! Invisalign works best when worn at least 22 hours daily. But life happens, and you might occasionally fall short. Just be consistent overall, and your results will be worth it. Stay on track, and you can avoid additional costs and time associated with noncompliance.
